On 12th February Scottish Arts Council "launched Inspire, a major new Lottery fund for the development of exciting, innovative projects to inspire and encourage the people of Scotland to participate in the arts and become creative, imaginative members of a confident, cultured nation.
The £8 million fund has been developed as part of the Scottish Arts Council's commitment to increasing participation and aims to provide more, wider, better engagement with the arts:
More - increasing the number and range of people enjoying and taking part in the arts, particularly arts activity for and by children and young people.
Wider - making the arts available to those who have had little opportunity to participate in the past; ensuring a fair geographic spread of activities; and supporting projects across artforms and technologies.

Women's Fund for Scotland >> The Scottish Community Foundation is able to accept grant applications until 15th December 2006
for awards from the Women's Fund for Scotland during the 2006/07 financial year
The broad aim of the Scottish Community Foundation is to assist charities and community groups (with charitable aims) working to improve the quality of life and life chances in Scotland, especially in circumstances where funding is particularly hard to find and where a grant can achieve significant impact in enabling groups to fulfil their own objectives.
The Foundation established the Women's Fund for Scotland in 2002, dedicated to improving the quality of life of women in Scotland. Since then it has awarded over £600,000 in grants from the Fund to over 250 community projects, supporting the development, self-sufficiency, and economic and social equality of Scotland's women.

Kirkintilloch Arts and Cultural Centre - update: Latest news of this project was presented today at an information evening in Tom Johnston House, Kirkintilloch.
Joan Riddell writes that "we have reached the stage where we are close to achieving the second stage of the lottery bidding process which will secure the final budget, but.....have worked with the design team to make substantial changes to the outer shell design of the building. The internal spaces and quality of those spaces remain intact.
The new shape is, we believe, an innovative design which will deliver a flagship for arts provision in East Dunbartonshire, and will ensure that the marina area at Southbank will be an exciting destination."

Heritage Lottery Fund At a meeting convened by East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson, HLF Manager for Scotland, Colin McLean presented data showing that relative spending per head of HLF funding in East Dunbartonshire is far below (1/9th) the average for Scotland. This is evidently the result of a paucity of applications. It was emphasised that "heritage" need not be very old (minimum 10 years).
Projects which have been funded so far in East Dunbartonshire are:
- New Kilpatrick Church: Urgent structural repairs to A-listed building.
- Peel Park: Restoration and interpretation
- Auld Kirk Museum: Refurbishment
- Kirkintilloch Town Trail
- Mugdock Castle and Country Park: Interpretation project
